Ellen Hobart
Bio

I am a visual artist born and raised in Southwest Detroit.   In a world of flux I explore ideas concerning the natural world, human behavior, evolution, and spirituality in order to attain a fluidity of meaning between these concepts and their relation to Contemporary Culture.   The integrity of the work is found in the act of pulling together cohesive images from a variety of mediums and materials, mimicking the thought process of the human psyche in order to stimulate the subconscious.

My most recent body of work explores Pagan Philosophy, its history, and its relevance to Contemporary Culture.   It pays homage to Celtic Deities while simultaneously illustrating the distortion they have endured throughout history by more powerful paradigms.   This work consists of photographic images, which have been abstracted, collaged, and manipulated with paint to demonstrate the misinterpretation of these deities, as well as to reference the ambiguous nature of faith and humanity.

My decision to study Fine Art came after I won a contest for high school students and began taking courses at The College for Creative Studies.   Originally a Ceramics major, I turned my focus to Photography and Painting during my undergraduate studies at Henry Ford Community College.   A newcomer to the Detroit art scene, I have been featured at 4731 Gallery, Detroit by Design, and 555 Gallery.   I study Fine Arts at Wayne State University, while continuing to expand my repertoire as a visual artist and free-lance photographer.
