P. S. Burton
I remember

I remember walking home as a child
Joyful and pleasant on a unyielding
Adventure through this fantasy which
Was my neighborhood.

I started my adventure on the lane
Of the many cherry trees that filled
The road with bliss as you walk up this
Road I would find my mind at ease
I'll look back once and only once at
What I had missed and continued.

I walked and walked from the lane of
Cherries through Ohio and stopping
When I got to Wisconsin this took only
Minutes but my feet were sore from running
From the lost dogs that covered the borders
Of Ohio and Wisconsin made me tired.

Wisconsin was unusually small in the spring
The younger kids always played in the streets
There made-up games. And to the left of me there
Was a girl riding her bike what looked like
Her first time she smiled softly whispering the word
"Hello" as she past me swaying side to side like the
Weeping willow in the yard near my peace of heaven

I was finally here my adventure was over I fell back
And hit the ground softly next to the maroon tulips
And white magnolias and I fell asleep and thats all
I can remember
