John Azoni
Bio

John Azoni was born in Pontiac Michigan on November 16, 1984. The artist grew up in both Clarkston and Rochester Hills, Michigan. It wasn't until Azoni got to high school that he realized his potential at making art. He became interested in art at the age of 14 while on a family vacation to Italy, where he was inspired by the culture and art community there. He was particularly taken by the artists making and selling their work on the street. He returned home, bought a sketchbook, and began taking his first steps as an artist by attempting to render pictures of celebrities out of magazines.

With the notion that one had to be a painter to be successful in two dimensional art, he tried his hand at painting. Frustrated by the lack of control with watercolors, he found oil paints more suitable. Obsessing over color mixing, and experimenting with different styles, Azoni taught himself to paint portraits in time.

At the Maryland Institute College of Art, Azoni began to pursue a formal career in art by developing his own personal style and voice as a painter. Recognition for the artist came when he moved back to Detroit to attend the College for Creative Studies. Known for his ambition and motivation, Azoni was quickly noticed by his professors as a skilled and driven artist.

Now more proficient then ever, Azoni has been showing new works at galleries around the Metro Detroit area, and has also been included in a works on paper show in Fort Worth, Texas. When not doing art Azoni is giving back to the community by teaching art to elementary and middle school aged children in Detroit's inner city, while also leading a Christian organization on the College for Creative Studies campus, hoping to better the campus and the community.
